In collaboration with CISP [International Commitee for the People's Development] Radioforpeace presents a three episode's series all focused on an environmental project directed towards the Lebanese population of the Tyre Municipality, located in the Southern part of the country.CISP has been working in the development of several humanitarian projects in Lebanon since 1996. Many of these projects are directed in particular towards the Palestinian refugees. All these projects have been funded by the Humanitarian Office of the European Commission and their main purpose was to strenghten the health system that is run by the Palestinian Red Half Moon.
CISP has implemented several cooperation activities on behalf of the Lebanese population. Between them, an important one was the support provided to the activities of the Lebanese Red Cross for the improvement of the emergency health services at the national level.
Another important sector of its work is the reconstruction of basic infrastructures like the sanitary services, the water systems and the sewerages. These infrastructures are located in areas that for historical and contingent reasons related to the conflict situation are highly depressed, while the main part of the work is taking place in the southern part of the country.
During the Israeli-Lebanese conflict of the summer of 2006, CISP and few other organisations joined forces to bring help to the heavily hit Lebanese population, with their action centred on the badly damaged southern area of the country.
Apart from being involved in all these emergency operations, CISP is also working on the development of few other projects in the same area whose aim is the improvement of the life quality of the local population. Its work is supported by the Italian Cooperation sector and other international bodies like Unicef. An important objective behind the realization of these projects by CISP is to combine structural activities with educational and social operations. The focus is on the diffusion of knowledge between the local population about the right behaviors in relation with hygienic activities and the differentiated waste collection.
The project is partly funded by the Emilia Romagna Region and it also enlists Anpas as a relevant co-proposer and few other partners like the “Donne Insieme” Association of Granarolo [Bologna province], the Ferrara Province and RadioForPeace. The Tyre municipality is also a local partner of this project.
The main aim of this project is to provide education about the right environmental practices and the promotion of the differentiated waste collection in the school district of Tyre.
There are 11 schools that are involved with the activities that will be developed by the students of 5 schools located in the Emilia-Romagna region; this collaboration is going to be realised through the exchange of ideas and divulgative material produced by the same students, all focused on environmental themes and on the treatment of waste.
